Hi!  I am the newest member of the McDermott family and my name is Bailey.  I am a maremma sheepdog.   I am native to the mountainous regions of the Apennine Mountains in the Italian region of Abruzzo.   Maremmas have been used for centuries as flock guardian dogs for sheep and goats.  When properly trained (like me) maremmas have the ability to bond with sheep, goats alpacas, and llamas.  My breed standard is described as being majestic, lively, sturdy, distinguished, intelligent and courageous without being aggressive.  I demonstrate aloof awareness as a leader of my herd while assuming a secondary role to my human family.

I am thrilled to report that when I was eating my breakfast Sunday morning my owners found a new member of my herd flopping about in the barn trying to escape the membanous bag from which he had arrived in.   Hence a new friend!  This little guy will undoubtedly require my undivided attention and care until he is up and going.    I am sooooooo excited!!!!!!

My family found me my very own puppy to keep me company and guard the alpacas.  At first I was not too sure it was a good idea.  Especially given the fact that she keeps eating my food.  But she is starting to grow on me a little bit.  I have a lot to teach her about keeping the alpacas safe.  I will do that in between play time and naps.
